We second graders surely did love being appreciated.  Enjoying our legos was the best!  Oddly enough, we even enjoyed cleaning out and organizing our desks!

Agriculture Visits Second Grade

May 4, 2012 · 1 Comment · Uncategorized

Because Project RED (Rural Education Days) took place during our Spring Break, we second graders weren’t able to enjoy the agricultural experience fully this year.   However, a director of the Farm Bureau program named Mary and a presenter named Gladys graciously volunteered to come to our classroom.  First we learned about farming by making a bracelet in which each bead represented a part of the farm.  Then we shook a jar that had whipping cream in it.  After a bit, the whipping cream turned to sweet butter.  The butter tasted really yummy on crackers.  Finally the ladies gave us each a bag with freebies in it.  What fun!

Second Grade Enjoys the Library

April 19, 2012 · No Comments · Uncategorized

To celebrate March Is Reading Month, we second graders walked to the South Lansing Library.  We listened as the librarian told us how to use the library and where to find different kinds of books.  Then we participated in the story of a funny book.  The librarian helped us search for books, and finally most of us were able to check out a book.  Even though it was a wet day, we enjoyed our visit.  Even our parents had fun!

Who do you look like
most?

“Have you ever noticed that the more time two people
spend with each other, the more they look like each other?”

That was the question Fr. David Merconi, S.J. asked the
350 men at the “Building a Legacy” Catholic men’s conference in Grand Rapids
this past Saturday, March 10th.

“You always see siblings who look like each other”, said
Merconi.  “You even see spouses who look
like each other.”

“Sometimes you even see pets that look like their
owners!”

That statement brought a chuckle to me and the other IHM
- St. Casimir dads who came with me.  But, what Fr. Merconi followed up with made me
pause and reflect on my own life.

“If we start to take on the appearance of the people we
spend the most time with, then who in here can say they look like Jesus,” said
Merconi.

That statement has stuck with me since Saturday because
it sums up my feeling of wanting to do more spiritually beyond going to mass on
Sundays and saying grace before meals with my family.  Even beyond that, do my family, my friends,
and my co-workers see Jesus when I am with them?  All of this leads to the fact that I need to
spend my own personal time with Him.

For all of you, our IHM – St. Casimir parents and
families, Lent is an especially important time for rebuilding your relationship
with Christ and spending more time with Him.
This weekend, starting on Sunday, March 18th  at 8am through Monday, March 19th
at 8am, we are asking parents and families from our school to make a one hour
commitment to pray in the Holy Spirit Adoration Chapel at IHM during that 24
hour time period.  Our goal is to have
IHM – St. Casimir parents or families in the chapel for 24 hours. At the
conclusion of the 24 hour commitment, the school will celebrate mass at 8am on
Monday, March 19th.

To sign up, please contact Chris Wilcox in the school
office or see members of the IHM-St. Casimir School Committee at Career Night
this Thursday, March 15th.

Chinese New Year

March 1, 2012 · 1 Comment · Uncategorized

We second graders celebrated the Chinese New Year, or Lunar New year.  A parent generously brought a variety of foods and Asian items for us to enjoy.  After we enjoyed the food and drink, we made our own Dragon Parade as walked around the school making lots of noise.  What great fun we had!
